The Hammerhead shark is known as a Apex predator. Most Hammerhead sharks are placed in the genus Sphyrna. They are found worldwide, mostly in warm waters along the coastline. Unlike most sharks they normally swim in schools during the day, then become hunters at night. There are nine different species of Hammerheads. Three of those can be dangerous to humans. ( Scalloped, Great, and Smooth Hammerhead) The Scalloped and the Great are endangered. The shape of the Hammerhead allows the shark to see better. With their eyes on the side it gives the Hammerhead a full 360 degree view of everything, which means they can see above and below them at all times.
The diet of a Hammerhead is similar to other sharks. It includes fish, squid, octopus, and other sharks. Stingrays are their favorite. Another reason their heads comes in handy is for eating their prey. The Hammerhead will pin down the Stingray with their head and eat it while the ray is still in shock. Hammerheads aren't that aggressive though. The most aggressive Hammerhead is the Great. It is known to eat other Hammerheads and even their own young.
This predator is known to scare humans even though their survival is threatened by humans activities. Sharks often think humans are seals, or other sea creatures in the water. They don't attack us because they know we are humans. Sharks need to survive just like the rest of us and if we are in their territory, it isn't fair for us to blame them for the attacks the sharks and also humans have caused.
